1966-1967 Girls Basketball Teamb

Vide. Vini. Vinci. I came. I saw. I conquered. Julius Caesar almost got it right. For the Acton-Boxboro 1966-1967 girl's basketball team it was - They came. They saw. They conquered. This edition of the Lady Colonials put the exclamation point on Coach Issy Stearns' hoop dynasty.

This team was the first undefeated in AB Basketball annals finishing the 66-67 season with a 19-0 record! Winning the fledgling Dual County League and sweeping the equivalent of the girl's eastern Massachusetts championship, which at the time was known as "The Billerica Tournament."

b This team quieted those who thought girls could not play the men's game. Their fierce competitive nature and superb teamwork ushered the conversion from the half court halcyon days into the modern era of girl's basketball. In the past it was a fragmented half court game, the forwards were forwards, the guards were guards and never the twains shall meet. Led by AB legend and Hall of Fame member Linda Nyquist both Linda and Jill Cranna made the All-Star Team.

With this new age upon them, the 1966-1967 Girls Basketball Team made an indelible mark on the history of girl's basketball at AB and the state of Massachusetts. We congratulate your excellence. You can not do better than undefeated.

Kathy Barton, Patty Brown, Pamela Coles, Jill Cranna-Preolte, Donna Edwardsen-Hollywood, Leila Erkinnen, Hope MacPherson-Comeau, Linda Nyquist (ab), Marey Odenthal, Claudia Schwarn, Beatrice Simonds, Christian Steele-Messanger, Elaine Tuomanen, Jeanne Wall, Carol Warren-Fenton and Barbara Williams.
